House Bill 589: Competitive Energy Solutions for NC

Included in House Bill 589 are proposed programs that could encourage both businesses and residents in our state to utilize solar energy. These programs allow large energy consumers such as the military and UNC university systems to purchase reasonably priced solar energy, encourage homeowners and renters to be able to tap into community solar initiatives, and renewables will be more accessible through rebates and solar panel leasing opportunities.

The smart policies that allowed us to take advantage of our solar resources have resulted in a boom in clean-energy jobs and an economic windfall for rural counties. It’s also great news for clean air – solar panels do not emit toxins or climate change drivers like particulate matter, mercury, carbon dioxide or methane.
