Clean Air Carolina is excited to announce that our annual NC BREATHE conference is returning to Charlotte! The 2020 NC BREATHE conference will be held on April 9 at UNC Charlotte Center City. The conference will focus on the theme of “Health, Equity, and the Climate Crisis in North Carolina,” and will be co-sponsored by the UNC Charlotte Department of Public Health Sciences.
Call For Poster Abstracts!
We are also calling for posters on research presentations that examine the impacts of air quality and climate change on equity, health, economics, and the environment. From the poster submissions, three abstract authors will be selected to give a short lightning talk presentation about their poster and research during the afternoon portion of the conference. The deadline for abstract submission is midnight on March 1, 2020. For any abstract-related questions or comments, please email Rachel McIntosh-Kastrinsky at [email protected].
Conference Theme: Health, Equity, and the Climate Crisis in North Carolina
The conference theme was chosen based on the 2019 NC BREATHE Report findings that climate change will exacerbate the health, social, and economic disparities in communities that already face poorer outcomes. When preparing for climate change impacts, policymakers must focus on safeguarding the most vulnerable populations through a lens of equity and environmental justice. This year’s conference will discuss how North Carolinians’ health will be impacted by climate change, the disparities climate change will exacerbate, and how different communities are preparing for climate change.
Registration will open on January 13. Check the event page for speakers, session and agenda updates, and announcements. We look forward to seeing you in Charlotte!
