Meet Mary

Master Gardener, Mary Stauble, is manager of our Clean Air for Kids program where she works in schools and the community using ozone gardens (plants sensitive to air pollution) and citizen science to “make air visible”. With degrees in biology and environmental studies, and a Master’s degree in education, Mary has reached over a thousand people this year with her educational message about the importance of clean air to our health and actions we can take to protect air quality.

2018 Clean Air for Kids Highlights

  • Maintained and monitored four public and six school Ozone Gardens
  • Worked with students to install a new Ozone Garden at J.T. Williams Montessori School in Charlotte
  • Held 12 school and 20 public presentations, raising air quality awareness to over 1K people
  • Distributed IdleFree education material to over 400 public schools in five counties: Mecklenburg, Union, Gaston, Lincoln and Rowan-Salisbury
