MAHA is excited to join the Medical Society Consortium on Climate and Health as an affiliate member and looks forward to partnering on important climate and health initiatives. The Medical Consortium on Climate and Health brings together associations representing approximately 500,000 clinical practitioners to carry three simple messages:
- Climate change is harming Americans today and these harms will increase unless we act;
- The way to slow or stop these harms is to decrease the use of fossil fuels and increase energy efficiency and use of clean energy sources; and
- These changes in energy choices will improve the quality of our air and water and bring immediate health benefits.
This mission aligns with MAHA’s efforts and will strengthen MAHA’s network, initiatives and advocacy work. MAHA plans to collaborate with the Consortium on a number of projects including improving our “Air Quality, Health and Advocacy” training, growing our membership and advancing our advocacy efforts on climate and health.
The Consortium is comprised of 21 medical society members and 28 affiliate members across the nation and is hosted by George Mason University Center for Climate Change Communication. Medical Alert! reports and other educational materials and tools are used to educate members and the public about climate and health issues.
