ALERT: Help Save Future NC Light Rail Projects

Jun 1, 2018

“Tucked deep inside a revised state budget released Monday is a one-sentence paragraph that could effectively kill future light rail projects in Charlotte and across the state.” – Charlotte Observer

Can you take quick action and urge your legislators to oppose this attempt to kill public transit projects in NC?

There are several examples of how this provision hurts North Carolina:

  • NC will lose $1.2 billion in federal transportation funding.
  • The Durham-Orange light rail line project will come to a halt, a critical part of a regional transit system needed in the rapidly growing Triangle.
  • Future light rail projects in Mecklenburg County, including one running to the airport, would be nearly impossible to complete.
  • While some legislators seem opposed to any sort of modernization of our state’s energy and transit infrastructure, there are many who understand that going backwards is the wrong path.

Please tell your legislators to oppose this attempt to gut light rail projects and modern public transit projects in North Carolina that will reduce air pollution and promote responsible transportation. This action is especially urgent if you live in the Triangle or Mecklenburg areas.
